• You were given a list of choices for your final Tuck Everlasting project.  Complete this throughout the week and bring it to class on Tuesday.  (You do not have any reading for literature this week, so put some real time and effort into this!)

• To assess your reading comprehension and grasp of the book
• To assess your ability to format a letter correctly
• To assess your use of proper grammar and sentence construction
• Read the rest of the book.  
• Answer these reading comprehension questions in complete sentences.
• Study the vocabulary words for this section of the book.

• Research one of the following.  Create a poster to show the significance of your topic.  Make it easy to read!  It will hang in the classroom.  I will be using the rubric that I posted to Google Classroom to grade your posters.  Be sure to use it as you work so you'll know what is expected!

• Hippocrates (The "Father of Medicine")
• The Oracle at Delphi
• Classical Greek Architecture
• Complete Quest Guide page 34.  You will need two glasses or cups, hot and cold water, and a few drops of food coloring.  Answer the questions thoroughly.

• We completed lesson 28 in class, and we talked about lesson 29.  I want you to complete the practice and review set for 29, 30, and 31. (You can omit any VOCABULARY questions.)

• Look over corrections for lessons 17-19.
• Read over Lesson 20, which we talked about in class.

Fall Party- 10/29!  I'll have CFA nuggets for everyone.  Bring a side, drink, or dessert!

Parents- I am keeping a record of your child's assignments on the same Google spreadsheet as your payment log.  (It was the Google doc link shared with you at the beginning of the year.)  This will allow you to keep up with missing assignments, grades for graded assignments, etc.

• Read chapter 8, thoroughly.  Take notes in your science notebook as you read.  It will help you remember important information!

• Do your best.  This is not a simple fill-in-the-blank.  You're going to need to use those brains!

• Read through lesson 16 to help remind you of our in-class lesson.
• Complete lessons 17, 18, and 19.  You do not have to do the "More Practice" section, but you need to do the rest... including working through the exercises during the lesson and checking your answers as you go.
• If you have skipped lessons, you are going to be VERY lost in this class.  They are not optional, and you are responsible for catching up.  (There is a difference between something being difficult and needing extra help and simply not doing your work!)

• Read chapters 16-19 in Summer of the Monkeys.  Try to finish this step by Thursday.  Do not wait until the last minute!  You will have an essay to complete and submit AFTER you finish the book and it will take time to write.

• Look over your essay corrections.
• Traps are used in Summer of the Monkeys.  Now, come up with a trap of your own!  Think of any wild animal, and design a trap to try to catch it.  It must make sense!   
• Draw or make a model of your trap.
• Next, write a paper that explains your trap and instructs your reader on how to catch the animal.  
• In class, we talked about writing that gives instructions.  You will need to be sure to have transition words to help your paper flow, and you'll write in 2nd person.  Remember, commands are in 2nd person, because the subject is an understood YOU!
• Before you begin, watch this video to help you.  
• Define the following vocabulary words, and write them in your literature notebook.

Friday 9/20 & Saturday 9/21- I am looking for student volunteers to run two demonstration booths with me at the Inman Farm Heritage Days event right down the road from us at Minter's Farm.
It'll be hot, so bring a water bottle, money for food or a sack breakfasts/lunch/snack, and be ready to HELP!  (No whining allowed! 😉)

Science

• Read chapter 3 in The Story of Science textbook.
• Take notes in your science notebook of important dates and concepts are you read.
• If you find any important dates to add to our timeline, create an index card with an image, picture, or a few words describing the event, as well as the date.
• Read through and understand the vocabulary on page 5 of your workbook.  You may write any that you didn't know in your science notebook to help you remember.
• Complete page 6 Quest Sheet in your science workbook.  You will need to read the chapter carefully to be able to correctly complete this page!
• In class, we demonstrated the moon, sun, Earth system.  I want you to get creative this week.  You can represent the relationship between the moon (phases), sun, and earth in a colorful diagram, 3D model, painting, etc.  Feel free to get creative, but use this project to show what you've learned.  (Feel free to Google examples.... there are a LOT of great ones out there!)
• Click here for a video that reviews what you learned about rotation, revolution, the 365 day year, the 24 hour day, and seasons.  It also talks about tides, eclipses, and the equinox.

Grammar

• Look over mistakes from lessons 1-3.  Use these to improve, not to discourage!  FORTITUDE people!  (Don't know what fortitude means?  Look it up!)  We shall conquer this grammar!
• Complete lessons 5, 6, and 7 this week.  For each lesson, you must:
• Read through the lesson carefully, working through the examples and answers so that you understand the material.
• If anything is tricky, try to see if Khan Academy helps!  You can also send a question on Google Classroom.
• Complete the practice set and the review set for each lesson.
• Feel free to Facetime a friend from class to work on grammar together.  It sometimes helps to talk it out!
• Bring it all to class to be graded.

Literature

• Look up the vocabulary words for chapters 4-6 (given in class and pasted in notebook).  Write the definitions in your literature notebook.
• Study the vocabulary words on this week's Quizlet.
• Read through these reading comprehension questions before you read the chapters.  It will help... believe me!
• Read chapters 4-6 in Summer of the Monkeys.
• Write down examples of similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, hyperbole, and idioms under the correct flap in your notebook.  Bring these to class.  You can write down examples from chapters 1-3 and from this week's reading of chapters 4-6.
• Complete the Reading Comprehension questions in complete sentences.
• This week's essay question will be submitted ONLINE.  It must be completed and submitted by MONDAY MORNING at 11:00am.  Please plan ahead!

• As you read, jot down any notes information that you think we should add to our class timeline.  Write them down in your science notebook and bring them to class.
• Your workbook has some vocabulary words defined for each chapter that you might find helpful.  We talked about most of them in class, but if you'd like to read over them as a review, it may help you to better understand the material in the textbook.  (You don't have to write them down, just read through them!)

• Read through lesson 1 again.  You can skip the "Practice" section, because we talked through it in class.  I would like you to complete the "Review Set" for this lesson.  Write your answers in your Grammar notebook.
• ***Some answers can be circled or written in the space in the book.  If it can be done NEATLY, you can write these answers in the book and save the notebook for longer answers.  In the past, writing each answer in the book has become very messy for some kids!  If you need more space than the book allows, use the notebook.***
• Complete lessons 2 & 3, as well.  Read through and complete each lesson carefully.  Write your answers in your grammar notebook.  (Label the top of each page with the lesson number!)  If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in an email, text, or on Google Classroom!
