If anyone has employment issues due to COVID-19, please let me know... I'll work it out.  ❤  I've taken on a few tutoring students in order to cover all costs.  NO STUDENT OF MINE WILL LEAVE MY CLASSES DUE TO EMPLOYMENT ISSUES.
Love you guys.

ALL of my Freebird Farm classes (Farm Fusion AND FreeRangers classes of all ages) are invited to a music "concert" on Fridays at 10am.  If you play a musical instrument and want to share you talent, choose 1 song and log in between 9:45 & 10:00 to get on the list!  Everyone is welcome to log in and listen.  It's been a really peaceful and positive experience!  To join, just use the Zoom meeting code available on Google Classroom.  I don't like to post it publicly.  ;-)

Science
  • Oh my goodness I LOVE this video.  It's fast, but definitely watch it!!
  • RESEARCH-- You must research the Fibonacci Sequence/Golden Ratio in Art, Music, or Architecture.  As you research, focus in on one example that is mentioned.  Copy a picture to share with the class via Sharing Screen in Tuesday's class.  Be sure you can tell about how it fits the sequence!
  •  Read chapter 26 and complete this online quiz over the material.  You can use your book and your notebook.
  • We will be working on GROUPS for our Quest Guide Assignment this week!  You have to read the chapter thoroughly before you can start.  Each group will be completing a section of the guide and then it will be up to your group to teach the class about your topic.  You can present your material in any way you'd like!
    • C.K. & G.H. - p. 93 & 94

    • Check them as you go.  This week, I would like for you to post any starred questions on Classroom AS YOU GO.  So, if you complete lesson 105 and come to a tricky problem, jump on Classroom and post it under the new thread titled "⭐Grammar Questions". I will address them as you post them so that we can save our in class time for more fun things.  ;-)

Literature
  • This week, I will put your reading comprehension questions HERE as a Google Form.  I have the same expectations this way as I do for the sheets.... complete sentences and well thought-out responses!
  • Please be sure that you have thoroughly read the book and are familiar with all of the characters.  We will have a fun activity "in class" that will definitely go better for you if you have done the reading!
  • I'm uploading your revisions to your shared Google Drive by midnight on Wed 4/15.  Please revise and correct your essay.  Resubmit the final draft via this link by 6pm on  Monday, 4/20.

Love you guys.

These things are not due until 4/14!!!  Guess what?  With all of the craziness, I forgot that next week is our spring break!  Although you don't have to do ANY work at all for it, I will host a fun session for you on Tuesday from 1:00-2:30.  Since you are stuck at home, I thought it would be nice to do something fun "together".

  • Read chapter 25:  Absolute Zero
    • Check out the pages 226 & 227 on Fibonacci's numbers.

WRITING-
  • I want you to do something different this week.  I would like for you to write a letter to yourself 10 in the future.   The changes taking place and the decisions being made, both in our country and in our world, are major events in history.  Tell yourself about what things are like for you and your family right now.  This doesn't have to be fancy or full of research.  It's actually FOR YOU.  We will read them in class next week, but they are ultimately for you to keep for the future to remind yourself of this experience.

-drinks 2

-anything else I didn't think of that would be yummy with tacos... or extra desserts are never a bad idea!

Class begins at 11:45 and ends at 3:20 now!  😎
Thank you!

One of my students from the Tuesday class wanted me to share that he'll be at SkyZone's homeschool day tomorrow from 2:00-4:00.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it, but I think some Freebird Farm students will be there!  I'll try my best ;-)

Science

  • Read through the Quest Guide sheet for "Rome Rules" on page 72.  This will give you a glimpse of the chapter and help you recognize important people, places, events, etc.
  • Bring in corrections to the last four problems on your science test to improve your grade!
  • Read chapter 19.  As always, it's good to jot down notes as you read!
    • As you read through this chapter, be paying attention to the differences between ancient Greece and ancient Rome.  Jot down differences on page 73 of your Quest Guide, and add a quote for Strabo at the bottom of the page.
  • Watch this video on the Silk Road:
  • In your notebook, answer the following questions.  You do not need to write the questions, but please write your answer in complete sentences so that ANYONE would understand and learn from the response, without needing to know the question!
    • What factors hindered early connections between early river valley civilizations?
    • What role did nomadic people play in the establishment of the Silk Road trade
    • What religion makes it way from India along Silk Roads to China?
    • What did the diffusion of maritime technology, like the magnetic compass, lead to?
    • Silk Road trade led to global exchange and cultural blending to create new cultural elements. Can you think of a specific example of how the modern world economy has led to similar effects?

Grammar

Literature

  • Bring in your highlighted speech activity from last week.  We'll talk about it in class on Tuesday!
  • You have a BIG ESSAY this week!  Click here and choose one of the topics.  You will need an introduction paragraph, body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.  This needs to be written in formal language, so avoid using first person, slang terms, too many contractions, etc.  This should not sounds like you are talking to a friend.  Also, it's been a while since we talked about it in class, but be sure to avoid telling your audience that you are going to tell them something.  This is a common mistake at your age level!  So, avoid things like "Now, I'm going to explain..." or "I would like to now tell you..."
    • Grammar, punctuation, and capitalization counts.  If you are turning in your first draft, you are doing it wrong!  First, brainstorm and make an outline or sketch out your main ideas on paper.  Then, write a rough draft.  (I'd leave the intro and conclusion paragraphs until the end!)  Have someone else look it over and then rewrite!
  • Brainstorm some ideas for our Animal Farm Summary Storyboard.  Just jot them down in your notebook so we can discuss and come up with a plan in class!
  • We'll view your ads in class!  Remember, there is no WiFi in the schoolhouse... so everything needs to be on your device or on a USB flashdrive!  If you sent it to my phone, I will need to work on getting it over to my laptop so it can be viewed directly from my drive.

(I'll cross things off here as people sign up!)

-Shredded lettuce
-Diced tomatoes
-cilantro
-Sliced olives
-shredded cheese
-Mild salsa
-guacamole
-tortilla chips
-drinks 1
-drinks 2
-flour tortillas
-dessert item
-dessert item
-anything else I didn't think of that would be yummy with tacos!

Class begins at 11:45.  I seem to always run out of time... I just have too much that I want to do.  If it would be possible for you to stay until 3:20 each week, can you let me know?  I would love to extend the day for this Tuesday class IF it's easy for everyone.  Thanks!

Science

Heads up-- There is NOT a lot of science this week, but there IS a lot of literature!  Don't slack off until Sunday/Monday!
  • We will have a test over chapters 14-18 on Tuesday.
  • STUDY!

Grammar
  • Read through lesson 63 again.  Complete the "More Practice" set ONLY.  Then, click here to check your answers.
  • Complete lessons 64, 65, and 66.  After you finish each lesson, click here to check your work.  Put a star beside any questions that you need to review in class!

Literature
  • Click here for a packet of vocabulary pages.  The first two pages are for chapters 9 & 10.  The rest of the pages are OPTIONAL vocab study material to help you prepare for the quiz on Tuesday.
    • Here is the Quizlet over the entire book!
  • Read chapters 9-10.  There are no reading comprehension questions this week.  Instead, I have a study guide packet for you to help you prepare for class. This is NOT required, but highly, HIGHLY, suggested.
    • Also, here is a wonderful resource that will help you get a better understanding of the novel.  You can click on most of the links on the left side to explore the summary, theme, characters, analysis, etc.  I highly suggest you spend some time on this site.
  • On Google Classroom, I posted a document that I would like for you to read through.  The first page is the page that I had on the screen in class.  You should have this material in your notes.  Read through the next few pages of the document.  This will correspond to the different types of advertisement strategies that we glued into our Literature Notebooks.
  • Watch this video on persuasive strategies:
    • Complete the COLOR CODING activity given to you in class.  You need to use a highlighter or colored pencils to outline (or underline) the parts of Squealer's speech that utilize strategies of Ethos, Pathos, or Logos.
  • Bring in your Putin article activity from last week.  If you didn't bring it to class on Tuesday, you get a chance to bring it in!
  • Create an ad for an existing OR an imaginary product.  Use at least 3 techniques that are listed in your literature notebook (and in the document on Google Classroom).  You can write the script for an ad that you perform in class, or you can make a video of one.  If you make a video, you must send it to me as a file via Google Classroom so that I can save it to show in class (or you can save it to a USB flash drive).
    • Your ad should include at least 3 different techniques.
    • You need to explain your techniques on a notecard or piece of paper, listing whether or not they are pathos, ethos, or logos, as well as the specific type (bandwagon, name-calling, fear, plain folks, testimonial, glittering generalities, unwarranted extrapolation, bad logic, or other that isn't listed in our material.)
